Charleston Family Friendly Restaurants

Charleston Family Friendly Restaurants: Gala

Charleston, South Carolina is one of our favorite cities! It holds so much history for us as a family. Both my parents went to college there. My husband and I went to college there and got married there. We love it! The restaurant scene there is hot and sometimes it is hard to know which are Charleston family friendly restaurants. Here are some we love.

Lewis Barbecue

Lewis Barbecue has been around for a few years but it is a great spot downtown for families. It has a mix of indoor and outdoor seating with high chairs provided. It is counter service so you can be in and out without having to wait on a server. You basically choose your meat or sandwich and sides and carry that from the counter to the table of your choice.

They have parking on site but the lot is not huge so you might have to walk a little to the overflow lot down the street. When we went there were families everywhere. It is popular so be sure to go early if you do not want to wait too long to order.

Gala Cafe is a great stop for breakfast or lunch. With its Old Village location in Mount Pleasant, it is full of charm and a great place to stop before heading out to Sullivan’s Island for the day.

They have a great mix of pastries, sandwiches, and coffees for whatever you’re in the mood for. There is indoor and outdoor seating you’re able to enjoy the weather if it is a beautiful day. Parking is hit or miss as they do not have a dedicated lot but I have never had a problem. The Old Village is very walkable with sidewalks so it is an easy walk if you have to park down the street.

Island Cabana Bar

Island Cabana Bar is a great spot if you’re looking for a family friendly restaurant right on the water. They do not have high chairs so I definitely recommend bringing a stroller. It is all outside so it is not a place I would recommend in the rain.

The food is counter service and you have to go back inside to get it so it is not somewhere I would recommend going with your kids alone. Since it is right on the water you have to keep an eye on your kids at all times. They do have live music at night so keep that in mind if your kids are sensitive to loud noise. JL enjoyed watching the band though! They offer a mix of refrigerated beverages and frose for the adults!

Tideland Brewing

If local brews are your thing, Tideland Brewing is a great stop in North Charleston with kids or dogs in tow.

Tideland offers a great selection of food and beers (their wine isn’t bad either). There is ample parking and indoor and outdoor seating. I do recommend bringing bug spray if you want to sit outside.

Kid Cashew

On a recent trip to Charleston, we went with 2 toddlers and an infant to Kid Cashew in Mt. Pleasant. It was a nice enough night that we could sit outside where the kids could move around a little while we waited for the food. They have high chairs, children’s menus, and crayons so it is definitely a family friendly restaurant.

Charleston Family Friendly Restaurants

Like I said, Charleston is one of our favorite spots so I’ll be updating this list on our return visits!
