Things to Do in The Hamptons with a Baby
For our anniversary/my birthday trip right after JL was born we decided to do a road trip to the Hamptons. JL was only 6 weeks old at the time so we did not want to fly with him yet. The Hamptons was between 5-6 hours from our home in Boston at the time. While it was a longer road trip with a baby, it was definitely doable. Plus, it was somewhere I had heard so much about but never been before. I found out there are lots of things to do in the Hamptons with a baby!

Where to Stay in the Hamptons
We planned this trip at the last minute. Mostly everything was booked as August is peak season. Luckily, we were able to secure an AirBNB in Sag Harbor. We explored all the towns during our trip and I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. Where you stay will mostly come down to how much you’re willing to pay.
Things to Do in the Hamptons
When I think of the Hamptons, I think fancy parties like you see on reality TV. Obviously, we were not being invited to any of those on our vacation. However, we had a great time and it was easy coming up with things to do despite arranging our schedule based on JL’s nap time.
We spent 3 days in the Hamptons. First, we got settled into our AirBNB and checked out Sag Harbor. On our second day we spent some more time in Sag Harbor, did a wine tasting and when shopping and had dinner in East Hampton. Finally, on our last day we headed to Montauk for the day then back to Sag Harbor for dinner.
Shopping
The Hamptons is definitely known for its shopping. From cute boutiques to high end designer names, there is something for everyone. Each downtown area is filled with its own mix of shops.
Personally, Sag Harbor was my favorite of the downtowns. It had the most eclectic mix of shops. I definitely recommend grabbing a cup of coffee from Sagtown and window shopping and popping in and out of shops for an hour.
Wine Tasting
There are few wineries in the Hamptons. We chose to check out Duck Walk and had such a great experience there. The gentleman who did our tasting was very friendly and knowledgable. Even though it was peak season for Hamptons vacations, we were able to walk in and do a tasting without a wait. Definitely recommend. They have outdoor seating but since JL was so young we wanted to keep him out of the sun.
Wolffer Estate is a Hamptons winery I see a lot of people visit during their time in the Hamptons. This winery requires a reservation that’s the reason we skipped it. We wanted to keep our trip pretty flexible. Of note, they do not allow dogs. However, we did try their wine by visiting their wine stand and grabbing a bottle to enjoy at night once we were back in our room.
Dining Out
When traveling with JL we try to stick with early dinners or lunches and avoid peak times in case he gets fussy.
The American Hotel
We enjoyed a lovely lunch at The American Hotel. We took the first available booking so we could be in and out before the lunch rush. Of note, this is a little more of an upscale restaurant. Prices may be a little elevated from your typical soup, salad, or sandwich. Definitely keep this in mind if you are sticking to a tight budget. Also, there are indoor or outdoor seating options depending on your preference!
Dopo La Spiaggia
This restaurant has 2 locations, Sag Harbor and East Hampton. We spent an afternoon shopping in East Hampton so we headed here for an early dinner. Seriously, we were there as soon as they opened and were the first table sat.
They have indoor and outdoor options. We chose to sit outside since it was dinner time and the day had cooled down some. Other families with children were dining while we were there. However, we were very glad we picked the earliest seating as the restaurant got busy. JL started getting fussy towards the end of the meal so we were glad to be leaving as prime time arrived. Of note, there is a small parking lot at the restaurant so this is a perk of an early reservation if you are unable to taxi to the restaurant.
Page at 63 Main
On our last night, we went to Page at 63 Main in Sag Harbor. Once again, we went for an early dinner to beat the dinner rush. They only offer indoor seating but the back patio has large windows so you almost feel like you are dining outside. This is a great spot families with strollers as the tables were spread out so we had a little more room to park the stroller by the table.
Beaches
There are plenty of beaches to check out during your visit to the Hamptons especially if you have older children. We chose to spend more of our time checking out the downtown areas during our stay. However, if you’re looking to get in some beach time during your stay, here is a link to check out Hamptons beaches.
Things to do in the Hamptons: A Day in Montauk
We took one day to head out to the tip of Long Island, Montauk. We got an early start to try to beat some traffic. Montauk has a different vibe because it is definitely more of a beach town than the towns of the Hamptons. Public beach access is close to the town area with the shops, but we did not spend any time there since JL was so young at the time.
Lunch at Hooked
For lunch we went to Hooked. It is a great place to go with kids and get great seafood. It is literally a take out window with some picnic tables off a side street. There is limited parking close by so you may have to walk a block or two from your car. I love a low key place with great food when traveling with kids!
Montauk Brewing
Montauk Brewing Company is a no frills brewery in Montauk. They have a decent number of tables and chairs outside with some shady spots and umbrellas. Honestly, I love anywhere you can sit outside in the shade and enjoy the nice weather. Hungry? Definitely eat before you go because they have minimal food offerings. They mostly serve snacks like pretzels.
JL was definitely the youngest guest while we were there. There were some families with older children that actually let their kids go play in the park across the street while the parents watched from their seats. Obviously that would be up to you!
Montauk Lighthouse
Montauk Lighthouse looked like something that would be really neat to check out with older kids. At the time, JL was so young and it was close to nap time so we opted out of it.
Tracy Anderson Method
I am a Tracy Anderson Method home workout devotee so my bucket list item for my next Hamptons trip is to attend a class at her new Sag Harbor studio. If you’re not familiar with her method, I definitely recommend checking it out. I felt like she transformed my body post pregnancy. I looked forward to and enjoyed doing the workouts.
Things to do in The Hamptons
Finally, the Hamptons is definitely a fun trip in the summer with a baby, especially if it is drivable from where you live. Just because your trip doesn’t include celebrity parties, you can still enjoy the nice weather with your family!
What are your favorite things to do in the Hamptons?
Bon Voyage,
